Video Business Academy clients stayed two to three years on average, across every offer they bought. That number is client lifetime duration.
What is client lifetime duration?
Client lifetime duration is the number of months a client stays and pays, across every offer. It starts at the first payment and ends at the last one. We ask for it in every back-end audit, next to client success rate, time to value, on-track rate and lifetime value.
Duration and value move together, but they are not the same number. A client can stay long on a cheap monthly plan, or pay a lot in one short program. Read both.
How do you calculate client lifetime duration?
Per client, count the months from the first payment to the last, or to today if they still pay. Average it across clients who started in the same month. Clients who are still active push the number up over time, so read the older start months first.
For monthly billing there is a quick estimate: one divided by monthly churn. For example, at 5% monthly churn the average client stays about 20 months. It breaks for upfront programs, where nobody churns until the end.
| Offer structure | What sets the duration |
|---|---|
| One fixed-term program, paid upfront | The program length; then the client leaves |
| Program plus extension | The program length, plus the extension for clients close to the goal |
| Program plus next offers | Each offer a winner buys adds its own length |
| Monthly billing | Churn: how many months pass before clients stop paying |
What makes clients stay longer?
Results first. A client who never reaches the goal never feels ready for the next thing, so they leave when the first program ends. A client who wins has a new need.
Then the next offer, in time. Start the conversation at least 60 days before the end. If the next offer is relevant, up to 30% of all clients buy it, and 40% or more of the winners.
Up to two years, depending on the offer. You never sell 100% of people into the next offer, and it depends whether it is monthly or a six-to-twelve-month upfront program. We can extend how long a client stays by another 30%, up to 50% depending on the offer, through extensions and the next offers. Some clients stay for years; those are the exception.

Result from a named client with written permission. Typical clients of this cohort saw a range of outcomes; nothing here is a guarantee. How we handle claims.
What goes wrong when coaches track it?
Counting only the first program. Duration then equals program length, and it never shows what the back end adds.
Reading only the live number. A coach who sees only this month cannot tell whether duration grew or shrank since last quarter, so the offer loops in the same place. Track by start month.
Stretching duration with cheap access. A $97 a month community for the same calls keeps a few clients paying, but it rarely sells and it competes with the main offer.
