How it is used in a coaching business
The reflex when a program grows is to hire more coaches and expect them to replicate the founder's manual energy. It rarely works, and it is expensive. The fractional model separates the two things a coach was doing: the expertise, which stays with the coach, and the relationship management, which moves to the client success team. A fractional coach then runs calls and reviews work for a set number of clients, and the team does everything else.
- Paid on a variable basis, so fulfillment cost tracks revenue instead of running ahead of it.
- Given an SOP for calls and feedback, so clients get the same experience across coaches.
- Paired with a CSM who owns the client relationship, so the coach is not the only point of contact.
- Disclosed on the sales call. Clients who discover associate coaches after paying ask for refunds.
The model is how a program with three full-time staff can serve several hundred clients. The fractional coaches supply the expertise hours. The full-time team supplies the system.
