How it is used in a coaching business
Founders ask how many clients one coach can handle. The question is slightly wrong. The coach's limit is set by call hours. The team's limit is set by how much of the work between calls has been turned into a system. A program where every question goes to a coach runs at a few dozen clients per person. A program where check-ins, onboarding and first-line support run on SOPs through a client success team runs at several hundred.
| Input | Example |
|---|---|
| Active clients | 700 |
| Full-time equivalent delivery staff | 3 |
| Clients per FTE | 233 |
The number only means something next to the client success rate. High clients per FTE with a low success rate is neglect at scale. The target is both: a team that carries hundreds of clients each and a result rate the business can put in its sales copy.
