How it is used in a coaching business
Completion is the metric that connects the training portal to the client success rate. It is also the one founders take personally, because a low number feels like a judgement on the content. It usually is not. The same material in a different structure, shorter lessons, a fixed path, a cohort and a check-in, completes at two or three times the rate.
| Format | Typical completion |
|---|---|
| Open online courses | 3 to 15 percent |
| Self-paced course | 30 to 45 percent |
| Cohort or hybrid program | 65 to 85 percent |
| Scheduled cohort vs open access | 77 percent vs 38.5 percent |
- Define completion per module, not just for the whole program, so the drop-off point is visible.
- Attach discussion prompts to lessons. In Ruzuku's data this alone lifted completion from 37 to 51 percent.
- Feed completion into the health score so an unfinished module triggers a check-in.
