How it is used in a coaching business
The term was borrowed from software companies, where a team is paid to make sure customers keep using the product. In coaching it means something more direct. The client bought a result. Client success is the set of people and routines that get them there, and that notice early when they are not on track.
- Owns the first 30 days: welcome, setup, first win, first call attended.
- Runs check-ins between calls and keeps a health score on every client.
- Flags drop-off to the coach before the client has decided to leave.
- Runs the renewal conversation, because the person who tracked the progress is the right person to ask.
Most coaching businesses have support, meaning someone answers questions. Far fewer have client success, meaning someone is responsible for outcomes. The difference shows up in churn.
